Frequently Asked Question [F. A. Q.]
4 What is the required frequency of Backup?

Before Processing, After Processing  and one additional set for each month.           It is recommended that three separate set of Data Backup floppies / CDs are kept and are used in rotation.

4 How to restore the Backup?

The Backup can be restore through Options provided in the menu. However it should be noted that   when Backup is restored it will over write the existing Data.

4 Why Is The Printer So Slow?

Many factors affect printer speed. Most of them cannot be changed from within Compuware Payroll.  There are some settings, however, that might improve the printing speed.                                                                                                                If you are using a dot-matrix printer you should try using a font that is native to the printer rather than a True Type font.  Compuware Payroll uses 'Arial' at 10 points as the default font.  This is a True Type font and will print slowly on most dot-matrix printers.  Fonts that are native to your printer will typically have a size in characters per inch (CPI) associated with the name.  Try switching to a font such as Courier (12 CPI) or Courier (10 CPI).

4 How Do I Enter the Year-to-Date History?
If you purchase Compuware Payroll at any time other than the beginning of an accounting year, it is important to get year-to-date payroll information entered prior to doing the first payroll using the program.
4 How Do I Move Data to a New Computer?

You cannot just copy the program from one computer to another.  The program must be installed from the original (or an update) disk in order to function properly on the new computer.                                                                                                The best and safest way to move data to a new computer is to backup the data on the old computer and restore it to the new one.                                                   It is possible (but not recommended) to copy the data directly from one computer to another.

4 How Do I Create a Shortcut on the Desktop?
Links to Compuware Payroll are automatically added to the start menu when the program is installed.

You can establish the shortcut by following these steps:

1.         Click on the desktop with the RIGHT mouse button at the location where you want the new shortcut.

2.         Select 'New' from the resulting popup menu.

3.         Select 'Shortcut' from the 'New' menu.

4.         In the Command Line box type the complete path and file name for the program.  If you installed the program in the default location, you should enter: "C:\Program Files\Compuware Payroll\cwpay.exe".  If you installed the program somewhere else, change this to reflect the actual path.  Note that upper/lower case is NOT significant.

5.         Click the 'Next' button and enter a name for the shortcut: "Compuware Payroll".

6.         Click the 'Finish' button.

NOTE: If you are running Windows 98 or Windows 2000 you can also simply click the start button, navigate through the menu to the payroll section, hold down the control key, and then drag the Compuware Payroll item and drop it on the desktop.
